DraStic

So I'm at the very start of the game where you're supposed to talk to the little sparkles grandpa.. well, I can't for the life of me figure out how to talk to the old man. If anyone could help out, it would be very much appreciated (:

Edit: after exploring a little more I can't interact with anyone.. I've tried tapping them in every way possible. I've even got the little sparkle to hover over the other charictures while I try tapping different buttons. Nothing seems to initiate an interaction..
