Android Tweaks, Hacks, and Power-ups aka Run the Emu Faster

Post by BeastieBoy » Sun Aug 11, 2013 11:53 am

So, my phone couldn't run some games smoothly until one fine gentleman recommended Seeder. Now, GTA Chinatown is amazing. So is Barbie, but eherm let's not get into that.

This thread is for suggestions and discussions of ways we could make Android faster. Right now, I commend Seeder.

I have just installed seeder, a small improvement for me. A custom kernel definately helps, mainly one with overclocking.

But don't flash one of these totally overloaded/overdesigned roms like PARANOIDANDROID or PAC rom. Use a slim and stripped one like NeatROM from _sale_ and a fast costum kernel like faux123.
And keep your device clean, don't install a shitload of useless apps you never gonna use.

This depends on your device...

overclocking, more ram and you should notice the side effects for overclocking (Your device will burn out) and seeder (battery decreases faster)

Any of you confirm if custom roms and OC do the trick? Seeder does it for me.

No need to oc.on my tab. It is already clocked at 1.6 by default and the rom is customized. I think a much better compatibility on games to use multithread is the best approach forward but yeah, old devices could benefit from seeder.

Also I think those with old models should check all their bg running stuff and free as much as possible as the emu loves its ram (mine uses 250mb easy).

Thanks for understanding!

By the way, does using unzipped roms give a performance boost? What doed the emu do with zipped roms, does it unzip it somewhere?

AFAIK, it loads into RAM. Use a trimmer to reduce file size, it decreases size and loading time without zipping! It reduces Pokemon black 2 from 512MB to 280MB. Here: http://eden.fm/ndstoykotrim/

it helps lots on the xperia play not overclocked.

Phantom Hourglass and mario kart stutter (some other games even force close, like Radiant Historia) but unzipping fixes it altogether.

edit: how does the trimming work? Does it not compress ressources internally, hence compromising the speed boost?
