Help finding good Android TV box with ARM

Post by Akrilove » Fri Feb 01, 2019 5:32 pm

Howdy everyone! First off, I love drastic and it's been great for me but I'm having issues with one specific game and it's driving me up a wall. Solatorobo Red the Hunter suffers crazy slowdown when taking damage from specific enemies that clears up after invincibility frames end but is still an issue, even with the update that's supposed to mitigate this exact issue. Some researching later I come to find it's because I always buy the exact wrong hardware for this. My three main devices are an Essential PH1, a snapdragon powered device that actually doesn't have the issue very much but is unable to be used for my needs as I plan on doing a let's play of the game on YouTube. I also have a modded Ouya but even modded with CyanogenMod, the app store recognized the device as an Ouya and only downloads the Ouya version of the app, something that as far as I can tell is no longer updated and the Ouya is pretty underpowered anyway. And lastly my other device is an Nvidia shield TV and apparently that Tegra X1 (and Tegra in general) doesn't get along with drastic. I had originally planned to just get a 3ds capture device though it would seem the makers of those went out of business as there online store closed. So now I've hit a wall. I humbly ask those of you with greater knowledge and experience than I to offer up suggestions on good ARM powered Android TV devices that will serve my needs. Especially if you have already tested Solatorobo on one of these and know it works fine. For those of you with suggestions but haven't tested Solatorobo specifically yet, you don't have to play long to get to the issue. Just play the tutorial until you get the medallion and get hit by the red and black ball enemies that attack you right afterwards. Please and thank you everyone, I can't wait for you suggestions! :D

Try using the Multi Threaded 3D rendering, it might fix the issue. Might not though.

You can also find me on Reddit (u/Ericbazinga) and Discord (in the DraStic Discord server). You'll find me in those places almost daily and here almost never.

Ive fiddled with lots of settings on my shield to no avail. That's why I'm not against just getting a different device running the right hardware at this point. I was just hoping to get suggestions on ones that are confirmed built with arm and therefore have the best compatibility sense snapdragon and Tegra chipsets run an older, less stable and less optimised version of the code when emulating from what I've read.

Weird since Tegra CPUs are ARM based. If I remember correctly the old and less optimized code is for x86 devices

Only the Tegra 1/2 are broken. X1 is overkill for everything I've seen.

Try Golden Sun Dark Dawn and see if the title screen runs fine or lags.
If it lags then something with your hardware/software configuration is wrong, since last I checked it ran fine on my Shield TV. I haven't tried Solatorobo, but I haven't found any game thus far more intensive than the title screen of Golden Sun to emulate.

I will have to give that a shot but like, yeah most games run no issues on my shield TV as well but Solatorobo just chugs whenever your damaged by a shade type enemy (but runs buttery smooth otherwise, and even my phone, an Essential PH1 doesn't have the issue nearly as bad and I haven't even touched the settings). Apparently it was such a problem that one of the updates supposedly fixed that specific issue but I just can't get it running smoothly even though others have. I'll diddle with settings some more but still, of anyone reading this does have any confirmation of Solatorobo running perfect on any hardware setup they have, send me some links because this is frustrating.
