Right now you can save one global preset for each screen layout (Landscape 1:1, Landscape x:1, Portrait 1:1, Landscape Aspect, and Landscape Fullscreen). And you can set one per-game preset for each layout. Some games use different buttons so it makes sense, but it's frustrating when there's a game that I sometimes play with a gamepad and other times with on-screen controls.
For on-screen controls I like to use a background image, which makes the screens smaller but also provides more room for the buttons. And I'd like to be able to switch between different portrait layouts - maybe one with the controls at the bottom, one with them in the middle between the screens, and one or two with background images. But the only way to do this is to remake the layout every time. At least with landscape mode, there are enough layouts that you can use each of them to store a preset.
