Suppot for 7-zip format?

Post by antarus » Sun Jan 05, 2014 10:04 am

Good day,

Is there gonna be support in the future for the 7-zip format?, there´s a lot of roms that compress more with this format than the normal zip.

This could be very nice with people with smartphones with 8 gb or 16 gb of space.

The .7z format isn't a standard. It'd be cool if the devs added it, but 7-Zip does support the .zip format. You can just extract the archive and then recompress as a .zip file.

An alternative for those with low storage devices (my own tablet is only 8GB) is to store your ROMs on external storage, they will still load fine from a micro SD card.

We were planning to add .7z support soon.

whats wrong with uncompressed nds files on a 4gb sdcard :P you couldnt load zip files on a R4 xD. but 7z support would be nice a lot of ds roms i get are in 7zip format. it seems zipping in this format doesnt zip the blank data on untrimmed roms.

Nothing wrong with it, but running compressed files is cool and saves space. I've got a 32GB card and I've even been thinking of zipping my ROMs to save space. You'd be surprised how quick it fills up once you start adding PSX and DS games, as well as videos.

Speaking of which, what's the limit on compressed files? DraStic can't work with compressed files larger than 128MB, right?

There isn't a limit like that. By default it unzips them to a file. There's an option to unzip them to RAM instead. For that to work you need enough free RAM for the unzipped ROM.

Where is this option? I looked in the options on 2.2.0 but couldn't find it, only the option to unzip compressed files, but not to unzip to RAM.

That's the option (enable unzip to file). If it's disabled, it will unzip to RAM instead.
