I didnt realize that. But yes, I was counting those. Even 8 digital directions mapped to a floating and seemingly analog controller would be an improvement in my eyes.

I completely support this idea. The part that sounds the best is the idea that the input (D-Pad or Analog Stick) appears where you place your finger. Frequently I find myself missing the D-Pad because my thumb had shifted from the center of pad since the last time I pressed it. I just recently bought this app and it would mean a great deal to me if this was implemented. 
Edit: To also prevent a DS screen press from turning into a D-Pad movement, it would probably be best to only activate the D-Pad if the screen touch on the phone was in empty space where there is no DS screen. This floating analog stick would also help by removing the need for an overlay D-pad that gets in the way of the screens.
