I don't see much of a reason personally tomget the retrode for me since I have long since used system specific and older tools to dump all of my retro (now) cartridges. This kinda seems like the retron 5 (I think that was the name) minus the emulator. So all it does is make a temporary (instead of a permanent rom) and instead of selling a product that uses other people's work and calling it proprietary technology they went the honorable route and just require people to use their own choice of emulators.

To be fair though even the official SNK portable system (neo geo x) stole final burn alpha to run on top of an underpowered linux device.

Well yes but you can drag-and-drop the ROMs it makes to your computer. It's probably the easiest method of dumping a game, as long as the Retrode supports that system.

Well that way not only do they not get sued by the original creator of the emulator, users can use whatever emulator they want. Killing two birds with one stone I guess.

You can also find me on Reddit (u/Ericbazinga) and Discord (in the DraStic Discord server). You'll find me in those places almost daily and here almost never.

I did not know about the fact you could drag and drop a rom from it on to your computer. The site for it didn't explain it well then. If that is the case, it is still pretty usless for me since I have a bunch of specialist equipment (read just older equipment that is more annoying to use) for dumping roms, but it does make the whole process easier and a whole lot cheaper for people just getting in to converting their collections.

I probably unfairly judged the retrode not really getting a proper understanding of what it did from it's sales page. That being said...

This is more of just a personal pet peeve of mine. Being a fan of emulation in general I really hate to see open source emulator code being used in any venture aimed at making money unless it is being done by the original authors. I am not even a fan of charging users for "porting" an emulator to a different platform..
