Raspberry Pi 2 and 3 (reviving old topic)

Post by mintwurm » Wed Jul 27, 2016 11:44 am

Hi,
I just installed RetroPie and was surprised to find no (good) DS emulator.
There is desmume but it is rather laggy.

Digging deeper, I found threads on this forum, discussing the possibility of a release of Drastic for the Pi.
Unfortunately, the posts date back to 2015 and there doesn't seem to be a follow up.
Maybe you could reconsider the issue ?

A central question was how to release (price) the pi version:
Release as a paid app -> runs against the open-source / everything free frame of mind.
Release for free -> anger android customers that have paid.

Personally I believe that good work shouldn't be free.
I own the android version and would have gladly paid twice its price, since the app is absolutely amazing. There would be nothing wrong with charging for the app on the Pi.
That being said, I wouldn't hold it against you to release a free version for the Pi, on the contrary. And I don't think there would be many people that wouldn't like this community service.
Maybe you could add a donate button ? Actually I think this would be even more profitable than simply charging the android price.

I'm afraid this was rather a long text and all of it on details of the release.
I have no idea how much work is involved in the port or even wether it can be done at all.
So without wanting to presume, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for one of my favourite android apps.

I'll talk to Lordus about it again. Ultimately it'd be up to him if he wants to get a build in working order, since I don't have RPis to test/develop with. But if is in favor of that I think we can support a free release. I'm not really concerned about interference with Android sales at this point.

If you decide to release this for free, I'll donate a pi to the team for testing (and fun).

Hm, actually I was in favor of a paid version.
So: if you release this for the pi (paid or unpaid) I'll donate a pi

You can also find me on Reddit (u/Ericbazinga) and Discord (in the DraStic Discord server). You'll find me in those places almost daily and here almost never.

Lordus says it currently works okay on his RPi 2.

We need to do some things like key mapping configuration before it'll be viable for a release.

Sounds great, thanks for the work.

And it seems like an additional rpi for testing would come in handy.
Are there PMs on this forum ?
Can you contact me with the desired shipping address ?

Thanks, but please don't worry about it, Lordus's testing should be sufficient - I can do whatever development I need to do on other Linux ARM devices (like Pandora). Or if I do need to grab one it'll be a lot easier for me to order it.
