Tried really hard to check if this issue was also on my smartphone (ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser) and I didn't found it.
Only thing that I can think of is that your smartphone can have some touchscreen problems.
To say that this is a Drastic's problem we need to see if this happens on more smartphones of various cost range.

Try enabling "Show visual feedback for touches" on your smartphone in Settings/Developer Options/Show Touches.
If you can't find "Developer Options", go to Settings/About Phone and press "Build Number" 7 times.
This will only help you find if the issue is with your touchscreen

Searching on the internet I found that other people had touchscreen problems with your device and they removed or reduced the issue by enabling "Force GPU Rendering" in Settings/Developer Options

Test results.

Enabling touch:
When the d-pad stuck issue happens, it still shows that the touch is still there.
When I use my right finger it shows that touch being registered as well as the left finger.
It's weird that my d-pad finger works and can move freely when my right finger is being held down?

GPU rendering:
Made no difference at all.

Yes a lot weird.
If you have any protective film on your smartphone's screen and it is worn-out, you should change it.
I suggest to bring your smartphone to a repair center or use an external controller.

You're right, probably will get some adapter and use a ps3 controller or something.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I reccomend the Ipega controllers where the phone goes in the middle rather than the top, it allows you to play in Portrait mode like a real DS

I suggest to use a Bluetooth controller, don't use cable one.
The micro USB port can break very easily
