pokemon platinum encounter cheat

Hello all
I'm having an issue with the wild pokemon modfier code not working properly on pokemon platinum. I follow the directions on the cheat menu, enter the pokemon number/level/nature etc with the button combo. When I go to the grass and run around my game will freeze. I've tried several different roms, double checked my version (jan 4th update btw), and made sure the easy stuff such as enabling cheats and the button combo is correct. I'm on my HTC EVO and I'll update the post with the Rom versions in the morning.
